Elizabeth's telling that story again
The Depression so deep and wide
She reminds me how lucky I am
Born on the other side
A teacher then, in old New York
Before everybody knew
About the second hand dress, and the loneliness
Of the world's war part two
And she still knows the names, the faces and games
The parents of children who
Decided to come to America
For the school year of thirty two
Oh what a time
What a long long time
And such a different world
The current of a life
The story of a wife
The path of a Belfast girl
Grandma's telling that story again
So I sink back into the chair
The room is light, and the storefront's bright
And the street vendors fill the air
A teacher then, in old New York
Before everybody knew
About the second hand dress, and the loneliness
Of the world's war part two
And she still knows the names, the faces and games
The parents of students who
Made their way to America
For the school year of thirty two
Oh what a time
What a long long time
And such a different world
The current of a life
The story of a wife
The path of a Belfast girl
